Entity Recognition for Sensor Network Motes
نویسندگان
چکیده
Message authenticity (knowing “who sent this message”) is an important security issue for sensor networks, and often difficult to solve. Sometimes, it may be sufficient and more efficient to solve the simpler entitiy recognition problem, instead: “is the message from the same entity that sent the previous messages?”. This paper describes entity recognition for sensor network motes. A protocol presented at SAC 2003 [5] is shown to be insecure, and a new and provably secure protocol is proposed.

Concrete Security for Entity Recognition: The Jane Doe Protocol (Full Paper)
Entity recognition does not ask whether the message is from some entity X, just whether a message is from the same entity as a previous message. This turns turns out to be very useful for low-end devices. Motivated by an attack against a protocol presented at SAC 2003, the current paper proposes a new protocol – the “Jane Doe Protocol” –, and provides a formal proof of its concrete security. Th...

متن کاملAnalysis of Network Lifetime for Wireless Sensor Network
Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) consists of motes which are equipped with limited battery and requires energy management for enhanced Network Lifetime. In this paper we have adopted a deployment strategy which is performed over a region of interest (ROI) obtained from contour integration of one hop to other. The selection of motes depending on the type of application is also analyzed. The necessi...
متن کاملA “Smart Dust”-Based Road Condition Monitoring System: Performance of A Small Wireless Sensor Network using Surge Time Synchronization
Pavement maintenance is vital for travel safety and thus detecting dangerous road conditions in real-time fashion is desirable. Using off-the-shelf sensors and a wireless sensor network product to detect such conditions at a low cost poses many challenges. To meet these challenges, a “Smart Dust” (i.e., the Mica2 Motes)-based sensor network is adopted in a proof-of-concept study to monitor pave...
متن کاملDiscovery, Localization and Recognition of Smart Objects by a Mobile Robot
This paper presents a robotic system that exploits Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technologies for implementing an ambient intelligence scenario. We address the problems of robot object discovery, localization, and recognition in a fully distributed way. We propose to embed some memory, some computational power, and some communication capability in the objects, by attaching a WSN mote to each ob...
